Imagine you’re in the desert, with the sun on top of your head, beaming brightly in your eyes. The non-stop sweating and dried throat. As you continue to walk, the intense heat finally takes a heavy toll on you. Your body is trembling and getting weaker by the second. Eventually, you’re at your last breath. Then suddenly, it falls from the sky. But it’s not the rain.
This is the imagery when Allah SWT said in the ayat of Ramadhan (2;185),
Bulan Ramadan yang padanya diturunkan……..
Diturunkan apa…?
Ramadhan in a literal sense means ‘kepanasan yang terik’. This is because, in the Arab culture, the month of Ramadhan is known for its extreme heat. You can only imagine how hot it is when even a society that lives in a desert (known for its heat) calls a specific month as ‘ Ramadhan (kepanasan yang terik)”. It’s gotta be real hot. Right? And just like any other hot day, what anyone would want and desperately seek for is water and the fall of rain. Cuz in those crucial moments, water is not just to quench our thirst, but also save us from dying.
But instead of sending down the rain, He sent down something that, not only could save our spiritual hearts from dying, but also could save us from the punishment of hell fire and act as a syafaat to help us entered Jannah, which is the Quran,
Ramadhan is commonly known as the blessed month for one particular reason. It was during this month, the Quran was sent down to humanity as guidance. And it’s because of this Quran, that the history of humanity shifted, from the era of Jahilliyah to becoming a God-Fearing society. Because of this Quran, the sahabah were pulled from the depth of darkness to the light of Islam, from the ummiyyin (unlettered) of the desert to the greatest generation and heroes in the history of Islam.
(Jumu’ah;2)
Thus, one of the main purpose of this month is to celebrate this very special gift from Allah SWT. A gift that reminds us of our purpose on this earth, provides comfort and motivation during our hardest times, shows us the right way to live, and warns us of the painful punishment and the promise of paradise that awaits.
And just like any gift, it’s only as good as it is being used. A father would not look at his son as appreciative when seeing that the new bicycle that he just bought for him was left to dust in the parking lot. Then, the same goes for the Quran.
If we truly appreciate this book, and its giver, then this month should prove it. This is a month for us to reconnect with the Quran by exhausting ourselves through reading, memorizing, understanding, and even sharing the message of the Quran. Our bond with the Quran shouldn’t be like other months. It should be inseparable, just like our mobile phone. The Quran (especially on this month) should be our companion, our entertainment, and to a certain extent, our obsession.
I know for some, it might seem like a lifetime since you last read or even held the Quran. But that’s okay. Cuz Ramadhan is here to heal that broken bond. What better time to do it than on the month when our no.1 enemy (Iblis and Syaitan) are chained and locked away?
This is the time!
And if you truly love and cherish this book, while also making an effort to understand and abide by its teaching, know that the same book that changed and transformed the life of the Sahabah RA, could also bring a change in your life.
Before I end, here’s a question. If this month is all about the Quran, then what does it have anything to do with fasting?
Well, the Quran’s main purpose is guidance. But to whom? For humanity of course, هُدًۭى لِّلنَّاسِ. The problem is, does everyone accept it as their guidance? No.
Cuz for someone to truly accept the Quran as their guidance, there’s actually a prerequisite. A condition one needs to abide by. A status one needs to obtain. Which is,
TAQWA (the fear of Allah SWT). For someone to genuinely accept the Quran as his one and only true guidance, a way of life, well, it’s not as easy as we thought. To follow all of the commandments and avoid all of the prohibition that are set by Allah, one needs to have taqwa first. Cuz the fact is, there will parts in the Quran where, it will ask of us something that will contradict and oppose what we feel and thought to be true, even urging us to sacrifice what we hold dear and love.
In those moment, what would we do? Would we succumb to our own desire or submit completely to the will of Allah? Taqwa will be the deciding factor. But how does one obtain Taqwa?
Wahai orang-orang yang beriman! Kamu diwajibkan berpuasa sebagaimana diwajibkan atas orang-orang yang dahulu daripada kamu, supaya kamu bertaqwa. (Al-Baqarah;183)
Through Fasting.
Thus, fasting helps us to build our Taqwa. So that now, we’re ready to accept with an open heart and mind, the Quran as our true guidance, a way of living, and the secret to success and salvation. In dunya and akhirat.
Let’s celebrate this Ramadhan by returning back to the Quran.
We need this more
InsyaAllah, Moga dapat manfaatnya
