لَّن يَسْتَنكِفَ ٱلْمَسِيحُ أَن يَكُونَ عَبْدًۭا لِّلَّهِ وَلَا ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ ۚ وَمَن يَسْتَنكِفْ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَيَسْتَكْبِرْ فَسَيَحْشُرُهُمْ إِلَيْهِ جَمِيعًۭا ١٧٢
“(Nabi Isa) Al-Masih tidak sekali-kali enggan dan angkuh daripada menjadi hamba bagi Allah, demikian juga (sikap) malaikat yang sentiasa berdamping (dengan Allah). Dan sesiapa yang enggan dan angkuh daripada beribadat kepada Allah, serta ia berlaku sombong takbur, maka Allah akan menghimpunkan mereka semua kepadaNya.”
One of the main purpose of this particular ayat is to address the misconception regarding Nabi Isa. Cuz for some, Nabi Isa AS is seen, not as a mere human but as a divine entity that needs to be worshiped. A God
Well, the Quran argues the opposite. Nabi Isa AS is not a God, but instead a humble worshiper of God. And at the same time, this ayat also serves as a reminder for all of us, that Nabi Isa AS,
Walaupun tinggi darjatnya di sisi Allah, Baginda tidak pernah sombong dalam menjadi Hamba Allah SWT.
لَّن يَسْتَنكِفَ ٱلْمَسِيحُ أَن يَكُونَ عَبْدًۭا لِّلَّهِ
(Nabi Isa) Al-Masih tidak sekali-kali enggan dan angkuh daripada menjadi hamba bagi Allah,
The word يَسْتَنكِفَ means refuse because of arrogance or pride.
Kadang-kadang dalam hidup, apabila kita diberi kuasa atau status yang tinggi, kita terus rasa kita hebat. To the point that we felt that certain things are way beneath us.
For example when a CEO/leader of a company nampak sampah di atas lantai office, instead of picking it up himself, he would call the nearest employee “Hey awak, tolong kutip sampah”. He would then continue rambling about how we as a company should always keep our workspace clean. I mean, I guess He’s right. But it wouldn’t hurt if he just picked it up himself. But for some reason, bila dah jadi boss, ‘kutip sampah’ is seen as beneath him. Suruh orang bawahan je. That’s is a form of يَسْتَنكِفَ.
Itulah realiti kehidupuan, bila dapat sahaja kuasa, harta dan status (itu pun baru sikit). Now we think we own everything and can do anything. The same goes for becoming Allah’s slave. Sometimes, when Allah gives us a small portion of Dunya, whether it’s wealth, power, influence, or popularity, instead of becoming more grateful to Him, we become more arrogant. Arrogant toward others, thinking we are better than everyone. And arrogant especially towards Allah SWT (the one who gave you in the first place). To a point when Allah commands or forbids us from doing something, our response is “WHY SHOULD I?”
“Aku dah dapat apa yang aku nak, I don’t need Allah, I don’t need Islam”
Tapi Nabi Isa AS datang dan berkata;
لَّن يَسْتَنكِفَ ٱلْمَسِيحُ أَن يَكُونَ عَبْدًۭا لِّلَّهِ
(Nabi Isa) Al-Masih tidak sekali-kali enggan dan angkuh daripada menjadi hamba bagi Allah,
Nabi Isa jauh lebih hebat dari kita, jauh lebih mulia, jauh lebih berilmu. Malah dia boleh sembuh orang yang buta, bercakap semasa masih baby, menghidupkan orang yang telah mati (dengan izin Tuhan) dan banyak lagi. Kau ada? And yet, Baginda tidak pernah sama sekali sombong. Baginda tidak pernah merasakan dirinya terlalu hebat untuk menjadi Hamba Allah SWT.
And add on to that, the ayat continues withl
“demikian juga (sikap) malaikat yang sentiasa berdamping (dengan Allah)”
Malaikat pun tidak sombong untuk menyembah Allah SWT.
Then comes the Question,
“Who do you think you are!?”
Siapa kita untuk merasa hebat dan bersikap sombong di muka bumi Allah ini?
Hebat sangatkah kita sehingga kita merasakan bahawa kita tidak perlukan Allah SWT dalam hidup?
Hebat sangatkah kita ini sehingga kita merasakan bahawa kita tidak setara (bukan level kita) untuk menjadi hamba Allah?
The fact is, we are no one. Kita hanya sekadar manusia yang hina lagi kerdil. Whatever we obtain and achieve in this world, Allah’s the one who gave it to us in the first place.
Tapi kalau awak still nak rasa hebat, fine….
وَمَن يَسْتَنكِفْ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَيَسْتَكْبِرْ فَسَيَحْشُرُهُمْ إِلَيْهِ جَمِيعًۭا
“Dan sesiapa yang enggan dan angkuh daripada beribadat kepada Allah, serta ia berlaku sombong takbur, maka Allah akan menghimpunkan mereka semua kepadaNya.”
The word for ‘gathering’ @ ‘menghimpunkan’ in this ayat is يَحْشُرُ. A verb that is usually used to indicate a sign of force. Meaning on judgment day, they were made to be gathered, instead of willingly. Just like how animals would be forced and sometimes wiped into their cages. In a sense, Allah SWT is warning us,
“Kalau kau masih juga nak rasa hebat, tunggu kau. On judgmentday, Aku heret dan pukul kau macam binatang. Baru kau tahu siapa sebenarnya hebat”
May Allah SWT protect us from His wrath on judgment day. And may He guide us to becoming a true and genuine slave of His.
